Ruby is lucky to be alive. She was saved by a vet tech who reached out to a local rescue to save her life when her family wanted to euthanize her due to a life-threatening emergency. Ruby was so sick, and had been neglected for a long time, causing her to be emaciated, malnourished and in desperate need of help. Fortunately Animalluvr's Dream Rescue agreed to care for Ruby and provide the veterinary care she needed. Ruby suffered from an inguinal hernia that was so severe it completely strangulated her uterus, causing it to be necrotic. She needed emergency surgery to save her life that also included resecting part of her intestines. While she's still battling several infections on her road to recovery, she is a fighter and is gaining weight slowly and safely, and getting better everyday.

What makes your pet unique or special?
Ruby is a "fluffy frenchie" with the most adorable underbite that makes her tongue stick out all the time. Her genetics were working against her medically, but they sure did make for one super cute survivor of a pup.

What is your pet’s favorite hobby?
Ruby LOVES to play fetch with her stuffies! She loves a good belly rub and snuggling with her humans.

Why did you enter this contest?
Ruby shows us what happens when dogs are irresponsibly overbred for the wrong reasons. There are so many incredible rescues that step up for dogs that are abandoned by breeders, or are willing to pay for the care these dogs need when their owners are no longer willing to pay for them. Ruby is not just a designer toy to show off, she's a living animal with a heart and feelings, and deserves to be loved forever by her family, no matter what. She shows us that dogs are a lifelong commitment, and they deserve to be part of the family. Ruby entered this contest to thank everyone that helped to save her life and give her a second chance with a forever family.

Why did you choose to support Frankie's Friends?
We chose to support Frankie's Friends because of their Vet Care for Rescues Grant Program that supports amazing rescues that take on medically complicated cases like Ruby and helps pay for the care they need to save their lives. Ruby hopes to inspire people to pay it forward, and consider rescuing their next pet.

Why should people vote for your pet?
People should vote for Ruby because she really is a true testament to what lifesaving veterinary care can do. She is a miracle and is only alive as a result of the rescue that agreed to save her life, the vet tech that advocated for the care she needed and refused to put her down, the surgeon that performed the complicated surgery to remove the necrotic tissue from her abdomen, the foster family that cared for her day in and day out to refeed her, medicate her, love her, and show her what a true family is. And... she's adorable. I mean, that underbite... am I right?!
