Comments/Description/Why Your Husky or Husky Mix Photo Should Win
After 35 years of Husky rescues, we've got down to 2 fuzzy-kids. In the last 18 months, we lost 3 of our girls...leaving our 14 year-old male [Jake] on his own. We've been here before, and Jake was devastated....and probably would die of loneliness. So, this past April, I knew that Jake needed a companion. I looked everywhere for an older feamle to rescue, and finally found the girl I thought appropriate, about 6 hours away. After making the plans to meet and pick her up, my buddy and I arrived at the meet location. I talked in the lot with the rescue person, exchanged money and paperwork...then got the shock of my life. This 9 1/2 year old dog was in her van/crate, with a wild look in her eyes. When she leashed her and opened the door, she came out like a missile! This 45lb dog was trying to drag my 300lb self across the lot. My buddy was just laughing at me. We got her loaded, and headed home. She never layed-down for the 6-hr drive, and was always wanting to be in the front seats. We got her home, and she was aggressive stubborn. We've been there before, and in a few days she was re-house broken, and knew not to bite. She apparently has been a wild-child her entire life. In her papers [since a puppy], she had one person who couldn't handle her, and her 2nd owner went in the hospital and never returned. The sister boarded her for awhile...then she ended up in the rescue. She has so much love, personality, and ENERGY. Our vet saw all her papers, and still said she'd have guessed her at 4-5 years old. Anyways, Jake is more lively than he's been in years, not lonely, and we now have our wonderful Mishka-Missile. She's now 10, and I see a long time with her. Makes me smile...
