Photograph Description
Crater Lake Wildfire

Crater Lake (Oregon) is the deepest lake in the United States. Because of its remote location, It is the least visited National Park in the USA. The only way to the lake is to hike a strenuous mile straight down to the water. The Lake is stunning for its blue color and clarity, and although, on this very day, the lake was breathtaking, it was the sight on the way out of the park which halted me.

I was in God's country and the landscape was vast and ran on for miles. As far and wide as I could see, smoke was sailing across the sky and my nose filled with the scent of "burn". The wind changed direction and so did the huge puffs of smoke which tricked my eyes into thinking they were clouds. I pulled over, grabbed my camera and photographed between moments of awe. Turns out, although the blue water of Crater Lake was stunning, it was the takeover of the wildfire that captivated me. During summer 2024, the fire danger level in southern Oregon was extreme and multiple wildfires were active, leaving me feeling humbled by this powerful natural phenomenon.
