Española Humane is a lifeline for animals in underserved communities, offering compassion without judgment as an open-admission shelter. In 2024 alone, we cared for over 4,000 homeless pets and performed 7,100+ free spay/neuter surgeries—more than any other shelter in New Mexico.

Our impact goes beyond our walls through innovative programs like Paws in the Pen, where incarcerated individuals train shelter dogs, and a transport network that finds homes for over 1,000 pets nationwide annually. With the help of a committed team, including 625 dedicated volunteers, we provide free vaccines and free spay/neuter surgeries, and our Pet Amigos outreach team goes door to door in targeted communities, keeping pets with their families by offering food, supplies, and other support when needed. Fueled by donors and partners, Española Humane proves that a small shelter with a big heart can change lives.
