Was your cat adopted from East Coast Maine Coon Rescue or is your cat an ECMCR foster cat?
Yes
City and State
Troy, NY
Your Cat's Story or Bio
Grizzly spent the first three months of his life in a kill shelter with his momma Penny - just a kitten herself. ECMCR rescued them and their foster mom Lori took wonderful care of them for weeks during the adoption process. Their forever mommy struggled to find a vet that could provide immediate health care for them since it was the middle of the pandemic. Appointments were three months out and new patients were not accepted in many cases. Operation Snip in Troy, NY came to the rescue. Momma Penny and Baby Grizzly were seen by a vet within the first week of adoption; both spayed and neutered within a few weeks. At first, Penny and Grizzly coughed and sneezed a lot and breathed heavy after playing. Two vet visits didn’t help as they did not find any infection or cause. Their forever mommy researched online and decided to see if it was a food allergy and took grains out of their diet. Their condition gradually improved and before long the symptoms were completely gone!
Penny was and is a fearless and loving, tiny momma. She allowed Grizzly to nurse well into his 8th month before she decided he needed to be a big boy. Grizzly was pretty much feral at first. It is doubtful he received any love or positive attention at that shelter. He was afraid of everything, especially hands and foot steps. Three years and nine months have passed and he is a completely different kitty. He is not only three times the size of Penny but he runs around and plays and talks and snuggles in bed with his humans. His favorite time of the day is when he gets brushed. He rolls over and over and grabs the brush to help brush his face. So cute! He even lets his human mommy cut his nails now! Grizzly will always be shy, especially with strangers, but he is a beautiful and gentle boy. Penny is brave and sassy and as cute as you can get! She will not give up until she squeezes her little self into the exact place and position on your lap she wants to be in. She loves iPad/iMac time, especially zoom. She swats at people and tries to bite them through the screen! Sometimes Penny acts more like a dog then a cat. Rather than run and hide from loud noises or a stranger at the door she runs to find out who it is or what made that noise! If the person stays for a visit she makes them her new best friend and curls up in their lap!
We are so blessed to have these babies and are forever grateful to East Coast Main Coon Rescue for responding to our application to adopt and Operation Snip for their assistance at a time when the rest of the world seemed to have shut down and stop caring. Thanks to you all!
