Alvin started as a peer mentor in the Fall 2021. He consistently demonstrates an unwavering commitment to supporting and guiding our students, embodying the qualities of an exemplary mentor. His dedication to fostering a collaborative and nurturing environment has significantly contributed to the growth and success of each student. Alvin not only excels in fulfilling the responsibilities of a mentor, he contributes to the success of additional activities that go beyond the usual duties, including; APR (Attract Prepare Retain) grant participant through the PA Department of Education-2022-2024 Information Sessions and guided tours for Career Studies PaTTAN Transition Conference speaker-2022 PA Department of Education conference speaker-2024 Penn State Harrisburg, Excellence in Peer Mentoring Award- 2024 Furthermore, Alvin extends his peer mentoring efforts beyond his regular duties by assisting students residing independently in campus housing. Alvin offers transportation and companionship to students from out of state, providing much-needed guidance. This instance exemplifies Alvin's dedication to going above and beyond for his fellow students. Alvin is known by our students for his comedic personality. His “one-liners” instantly bring positivity to the classroom. Students gravitate to him for his approachable and humorous nature. Another strength of Alvin is his ability to actively listen and empathize with his mentees. By taking the time to understand the unique challenges and interests of each individual, he is able to build meaningful and lasting relationships. Overall, Alvin epitomizes the qualities of an outstanding peer mentor. His dedication, expertise, and impact have undoubtedly enriched the lives of everyone here at Penn State Harrisburg while promoting inclusivity. We wholeheartedly believe that Alvin is highly deserving of the George Nahodil Excellence in Peer Mentorship Award.
