Please describe in detail how this nominee stands out among the other peer mentors in your program.
When the Coordinator of Student Supports for Leadership and Career Studies (L&CS) left for a new opportunity, Abby Allen, our Lead Peer Mentor, stepped confidently in to assist our students and staff even though she was herself extraordinarily busy with her own academic commitments. Her fellow peer mentors believe she should be recognized for her unflagging hard work with L&CS and on behalf of Temple University as a Resident Assistant. As a student in the BS/MS program in Recreational Therapy and the President of the Recreational Therapy Student Association, Abby prioritizes 'Inclusion,' with a capital 'I.' Her peer mentor colleague told us, “Abby works very hard to put others first and genuinely cares about seeing other students thrive in and out of the classroom.” She has been recognized for organizing events, for creating event slides, and for sending emails every other week to keep the corps of peer mentors connected. One peer mentor summed up what many other peer mentors feel, “Abby is a great leader and mentor and I’m very lucky to have her as a role model!” Those of us who have been around for a while grew up being advised, 'When the going gets tough, the tough get going.' Abby epitomizes that enduring truth. We expect her to be a future leader in the field of inclusive postsecondary education and are proud that she is Temple Made.
