Category 5 K9 is a not-for-profit organization that provides resources to assist the canine search and rescue community in its quest to bring lost and missing people home.
From Shelter To Search
Category 5 K9 works to find canines in shelters, rescues, or requiring rehome that have the potential to become search dogs. We work with volunteers across the country to evaluate dogs’ drives and temperament and provide them an opportunity to find jobs they love. Since 2020, Category 5 K9 has placed dogs in urban search and rescue (USAR), wilderness search and rescue (SAR), narcotics detection, explosives detection, contraband detection, and even service dog programs.
In 2022 the Shelter to Search Program placed dogs in USAR, explosives detection, contraband detection, and our first conservation detection dog. K9 Fin now searches for invasive mussel species on boats with Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Search and Rescue Team
Category 5 K9 provides certified canine search and rescue resources to Texas public safety agencies to help bring lost and missing people home. The Search Team has 14 certified canine teams that have supported searches across Texas. Category 5 K9 also hosts training and certification events for canine search and rescue teams across Texas.
