A little about me...
At age 11, Pippa was surrendered to the city shelter in Aztec New Mexico. One of the staff noticed her drinking a lot of water. Blood work was done and she was diagnosed as diabetic with a blood glucose over 400. The shelter took very good care of her and started her on glargine insulin while testing her every week. I was board president of a Colorado shelter and received transport lists on face book. I retired from the shelter in July but still received the list. I saw Pip Squeak or Angel as the shelter called her in August 2024 listed as a cat that was available for Colorado rescues to tag. I kept checking on her and saw that none of the rescues/ shelters tagged her---after all she was a senior and diabetic. I asked if I could adopt her. When approved she was added to the list for transport and I picked her up at the destination in Golden CO. She is a very sweet cat with a high pitch squeaky meow. She may be a cat that goes into remission as she is testing in the 100s on one unit or less of insulin. Please consider adopting these older cats from shelters/rescues as they have less of a chance of getting out when shelters are bursting at the seams. Some open admission shelters will immediately euthanize diabetics wrongly determining them to be unadoptable. The diabetic kitties are some of the best cats I have adopted and are very deserving of a home. Please don't overlook them.
