Alex was my first sugar baby and one of the loves of my life. He was diagnosed in September 2009 at 12 years old. When he was diagnosed he was in DKA and very sick. I almost lost him and I was determined never to let that happen and in spite of the fact that Alex was very ketone prone, had severe diabetic neuropathy, was never truly regulated and had several other chronic health problems including HCM, he was a happy boy. He rolled with the punches and he dealt with many setbacks including the death of his litter mate and bff Jackson in 2012. I honestly thought that would kill him but we grieved together and he pulled through that. He passed away 6 months after Jackson in 2013 shortly after turning 16 although I don't know what was wrong. He just stopped eating but there was no reason that any tests could find. My heart was completely broken.Alex and Jackson were both truly perfect cats in all ways. Alex always loved when I held him and sang "My Guy" to him. To this day, I can't hear that song without crying. Alex was a truly amazing sweet and heroic boy and I miss him every day.
