Why you should vote for this non-profit
Even in the best of times, youth in Big Brothers Big Sisters’ programs are facing adversity at a higher rate than the average young person in central Ohio. For example, 61% of the children we serve are growing up in households with annual incomes less than $25,000. And whiletheCOVID19 pandemic is affecting everyone, it is hitting the young people and families we serve the hardest.
Learning declines resulting from school disruptions are expected to be steepest among low-income, African American and Hispanic students
Social isolation can both increase the likelihood of adverse childhood experiences and compound their effects.
The American Academy of Pediatrics notes that social isolation makes it difficult for schools to identify and address learning deficits, behavioral problems, and mental health issues.
