Pet's Story or Bio
We adopted Aya (aka Marylyn) just 2 weeks ago from the CASPCA. She was extremely shy, and we were told that she would hide from, and even hiss at, visitors. As if to illustrate this point, she hissed at the SPCA staff member who opened her enclosure for us. But when I knelt down to say hello, rather than hissing, she walked over and tapped my fingers with her paw. It was as if she were saying, "I like you. Let's be friends."

After we got her home, initially she mainly kept to herself. I let her have her space to get used to our house. She showed signs of interest in friendship (slow blinking), but I didn't pressure her. After about three days, one day she came over and rubbed against my hand, and after that couldn't get enough pets. Now she plays with us, accepts pets, follows me, walks on the book I'm reading, and even visited the vet without any calming medication (something I was warned she couldn't do before). All in two weeks! She was a kitty waiting for her people. She has blossomed!

Her name means colorful in Japanese. On a lark, after I got her home I'd name off possible names including her SPCA name. Twice when I got to "Aya," she (I am not kidding) nodded. Coincidence? Probably, but I couldn't resist naming her Aya after that.

When did you adopt your pet?
