About CAHS

For 88 years, the Capital Area Humane Society (CAHS) has been working in Lansing, MI to promote the humane treatment of companion animals through protection, placement, education, and example. Through our good work, we have built an exceptional reputation, and as a result, we are now one of the most respected companion animal organizations in Michigan.

We average a 96.5% save rate at CAHS, while adopting out over 4,000 pets annually. We partner with over 50 other animal welfare organizations, in Michigan and beyond, taking in animals when they are full, including medical cases and victims of neglect and cruelty. In addition to our robust adoption program, we also offer a low-cost spay and neuter clinic for the public, a pet behavior helpline, a community pet food bank, and weeks of summer camps for children.
