Diesel is almost 2 years old now and is still just as cute as he was as a kitten....his favourite things are riding on my shoulders while I rap to him, sleeping on my Nepalese sweater, building forts with the Afghan my mom knitted...he loves all the tiny holes and of course rolling around on the ground on his back in the sunshine...he also likes to climb in the trees in the front yard and this summer I plan on building him a small little tree house and some little cat bridges so he and his friends can play in them....he has lots of cat friends in our neighborhood and he also likes to play with the new puppy next door...they sit on opposite sides of the fence and hang out...he is a bit nervous around other people and usually takes to the higher ground when other people are around but he has warmed up to my neighbour who has an amazing cat as well...Bugs is a polydactyl and has the back end of a chubby pitbull....she is the strangest cat I’ve ever seen but in a good way...we put a comfy chair outside Bug’s window so Deez can sit with her and keep her company when her mama is away at work...Diesel has also started to pick up skate boarding and he likes to roll on the skate board across the floor in my living room...I’m hoping that this summer I can teach him to ride a bit better as well as building him a hammock under the skylight and some other cool climbing structures in the house...I also want to get some in house cameras that also have audio in/out so I can talk with him while I’m not there and be able to keep an eye on him...a few other things that I should mention is that I had a cat named Diesel about 8 years ago and since he passed I have been looking for a cat but never found the right one until my old roommate Hilary called and said “I have your cat!” And she sent the pic I just submitted....my old cat “diesel senior” was a black and white cat with a little black dot on his chin and so when Hillary first saw him she thought of me right away...diesel senior was born on my birthday and when I asked when junior was born? Same day...so they look the same...they both have the exact black dot on their chin...they are both born on the same day...crazy right? so I tried thinking of names and nothing came so my dad suggested DJ....diesel junior.....so it was decided...about a month after this Hilary was walking in her small neighborhood when she saw a big black and white cat sitting on a car and she asked the man working in his yard about the cat because they had never found out who the father of the litter was....he confirmed the big cat was not neutered and it was the only male cat in the area that could be the father so they concluded that 99% he was the father...after they had talked for about five minutes or so Hilary started to walk away and she heard the owner of the big cat say... “come on Diesel, let’s go in and get you some dinner” Hilary’s jaw just dropped and she called me right away to tell me....isn’t it strange how some things happen and you have no idea at the time but after all the pieces come together and you realize it must be some sort of miracle....diesel jr is just an amazing cat, companion and friend....he’s so talkative and friendly....I think living by myself with just him has helped us form an unbelievable friendship and I love him more than words can express... and then to have all these fates of chance come together to bring him to me is exceptional.... I hope this story can help others see how important it is to have pets...they are very rewarding and can help so much in times of peril...I know when I have had a bad day and I come home the second I see diesel everything else, all my other problems, cease to exist...anyways hopefully this story can be shared with others because I think it’s pretty special...and thank you for all the work you guys do in our community....your work is often quite a sad mission but it must be rewarding when you can save a precious animal and give it the help it needs to get into a great forever home...my hats off to you and all the other staff members...thanks
PS we are saving up to get diesel neutered so I can’t donate a lot right now as times are very tough with not much work available...please vote for diesel though...I wish I had seen this contest sooner!
