Loulou (formerly known as Loki) came to us from the BCSPCA as a mature, plump, and let’s say, challenging cat. She had lost her one and only human when she passed away, and wasn’t adjusting well to life at the SPCA. She then bounced around between foster homes, and all the while she was under veterinary care and supervision for some chronic and some acute medical issues.

We went to meet her at the SPCA, and much to our surprise, we found that she was already home!

Actually, unbeknownst to us, she was being fostered by a friend and neighbour in our building and was already starting to come out of her shell. We met, she rubbed up against us, and that was it. We signed the papers, took over her vet care, and our neighbour was able to foster a new cat in need.

It has been more than two years since that day, and our Loulou is now 14 going on 15. She still has a few issues that require vet visits, but she’s down to a healthy weight, and is spry, affectionate, and maybe a little spoiled. She greets us at the door and tells us about her day, she sleeps beside (and sometimes on) us, and her favourite room is always the one that we’re in.

We hope Loulou inspires others to reach out to the more challenging animals up for adoption, and to provide foster homes to animals in need. She has certainly been an inspiration to us.
