Found in freeway traffic in a February rainstorm, Clover was slow to trust people. With patience and chicken, BACS staff members were finally able to coax her from the back of her kennel. I was assigned to take her to Bad Rap classes so she could learn manners and become adoptable by someone (else). Obedience work intrigued Clover, but her reactivity to other dogs was a challenge. Despite steady progress, after six months in the shelter, no one was interested in adopting her. Shelter staff told me she was scheduled to be euthanized; I said I wanted her. We've been together for six years, and she has become my highly-trained medical alert service dog. Now, through our work with Operation Freedom Paws, Clover even helps show other dogs how to have good manners. We think BACS deserves Tim's Jonny Justice carving to honor their dedication to blockhead rescue and training.
