Named after famed Russian empress Catherine II, this blue-tongued skink has reigned over her Arlington territory for more than a year. What Catherine lacks in warmth and affection, she makes up for in charisma and cunning. You never quite know where you stand with her; her subjects have learned that a blueberry offering is the best (possibly only) way to garner favor. Catherine carries herself with an undemanding grace, teaching her supporters how to value privacy over attention, to shed old versions of themselves that no longer serve them, and to bask in comfortable silence. Like her namesake, she is a patroness of literature, art, and science: her favorite books include The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, On the Origin of Species, and In Cold Blood.
