Since 1906 – Over a Century of Caring
For over a century we have offered a haven to abused and neglected animals. Founded in 1906, The Associated Humane Societies is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey. Last year we rescued 6,500 animals, reunited nearly 900 lost pets with their owners and adopted nearly 3,000 pets into new homes.
We operate three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls. Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused, or elderly — farm animals, birds, and wildlife (domestic and exotic).
The Society is a not for profit, 501 (c) 3 organization. In addition Popcorn Park is a federally licensed zoo. We take pride in our devotion to the thousands of animals that come through our doors looking for a better life.
Our Mission
Associated Humane Societies rescues stray and homeless animals, both domestic and wildlife, providing quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found. As a community-based organization, we provide low-cost veterinary care and humane education to promote responsible pet guardianship throughout New Jersey.
