Pet's Story
My entire life, I've rescued animals who needed me. The seniors, the misfits, the ones missing their jaws. But, for the first time ever, I rescued an animal not because he needed me... but because I needed him. I adopted Sammy Sanchez during a very hard time in my life. The first night he was with me, I started crying and Sammy immediately rushed over, jumped in my lap and began licking the tears off my face!
Sammy was surrendered with his brothers and sisters to Asheville Humane Society when his former owners realized they had too many animals to care for properly. Sammy’s siblings went to Pennsylvania to be adopted via the relocation program, but Sammy stayed here with me to live in Beer City, USA. (Don’t worry, it’s only ginger ale in his glass – he’s underage!) ;)
This diminutive, five pound canine packs a giant personality of pure love. In very un-typical-Chihuahua-like fashion, he rushes up to everyone he meets, props his front feet on their leg and looks adoringly up into their eyes, bringing them such joy. No matter what serious expression may be on someone’s face, no matter how tough a guy looks, the moment they see Sammy they just melt into smiles. He has even made several people cry as they scoop him up into their arms to pet his velvety-soft fur. He’s got a gift!
Please consider a donation to Asheville Humane's Pet of the Year Campaign in honor of Sammy Sanchez (100% goes to the animals of AHS), because I know there are a lot of folks out there whose lives could be so much sweeter if their days were shared with a beloved pet. Asheville Humane Society doesn’t just help animals have a life worth living, but people too. Sammy has enriched my life beyond words. He saved me. And there are so many more homeless animals just waiting for THEIR chance to rescue a person in need.
