My Pet Came From:
Another Shelter/Rescue

Pet's Story
We adopted Lela from Brother Wolf in Sep of 2014, and it was one of the best decisions my husband and I ever made! We love her so much! She is a dilute torbie, about 7 years old, and very photogenic. She's an absolute sweetheart, and such a gentle soul. She loves to play, eat, sleep, and look out windows, but she's also a great snuggler! Like most kitties, she's skittish, but sweet to her humans...never bites or scratches, unless it's an accident.

Lela is sort of a special needs kitty, as she has an autoimmune disease, as well as food and environmental allergies. This poor girl has been to the vet many times, and she even sees a veterinary dermatologist, so she is very expensive, but worth every penny! 😻

Lela is on a strict prescription diet, and has had biopsies on her paw pads and tail, and she's had more than half her teeth removed as well. She takes 2 pills every other day, requires a "tail bath" 2-3 times a week, plus cream on her tail a couple days a week. Sometimes she's a little grumpy about her tail baths (an occasional growl), but never tries to hurt us. She purrs through taking her pills and getting her teeth brushed (we brush them every night). She also loves to be combed and lets me trim her nails! Despite having some health issues, and being bullied sometimes by our other kitty, she remains her sweet, gentle self.

Lela is also an intelligent girl who learns things quickly and also figures out how to get what she wants. She quickly learned the phrase, "You wanna eat?" and lets us know with a little chirp, meow, or a soft pat on our legs that her answer is a definite, "yes!" She also learned that couches are not scratching posts. We told her firmly, "no" when we first got her, and after maybe 3 or 4 times trying it that first week, she learned and has never scratched on anything other than her posts and cardboard scratchers now. Such a good kitty!!

When she wants to eat in the early morning hours, she rubs her head on my face, gently paws my face, or puts her cold nose on my lips! 🙀If I don't get out of bed to feed her quick enough, she goes to the window and runs a paw down the blinds to make noise, haha!! Back when she had all of her teeth, she would bite off pieces (not eat it though) of the blinds on occasion, either for attention or to make a bigger hole to see the birds outside... I'm thinking a combination! That's the most destructive thing she has ever done lol! So I can't complain, as I think it's funny and I've heard many stories of cats that do so much worse! We love her and wouldn't trade her for anything! ❤
