Artworks-Orlando
ArtWorks-Orlando was started by Renée Schneider in 2003 as an outreach ministry of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. In ArtWorks classes children learn to creatively express themselves in a variety of art mediums. Projects are designed to encourage introspective thought and healing, enhance cultural pride, and build self-esteem. Through partnerships with the Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando Repertory Theatre and Winter Garden Art Association students participate in art museum tours, live theatre productions, art and drama workshops, and gallery exhibits. Some students also exhibit and sell their art. They attend opening receptions where they meet and discuss their art with guests. By sharing their stories, the children educate and advocate in an honest and powerful way for themselves and other children. This raises their confidence, improves communication skills, and builds self-esteem. In 2020 having outgrown the financial capacity of St. Luke's, ArtWorks-Orlando joined a newly forming non-profit Go Full Steam. To date ArtWorks-Orlando has shared the joy and healing power of art with over 1,500 children.
