Artist Statement (include type of art, techniques & materials used, what it means to you)I used acrylic paint and a 12x16 canvas. This art piece means a lot to me because I’m a huge MJ fan and find so much joy watching his performances and his music, as well as have studied his life. I truly love doing realistic portraits, especially of celebrities or even family members. Every day I try to practice every day so that my portraits improve. This is something that I’d love to do as part of a career hopefully.
Artist Bio: Tell Us Your StoryMy name is Luciana Leeman, I’m 18 years old and I was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 9. Having a brain tumor has impacted my life heavily, having daily headaches, nausea, fatigue, double vision, as well as being under chemotherapy that fatigues me heavily. Having all this hardship has also left me to be isolated from being around kids my age, from being homeschooled. One of the things that has helped me through the battle has been art, it has left me at peace of mind and gave me hope when times were tough. I feel so much amazement and tranquility when I’m making my artwork, using different mediums such as graphite, charcoal, or paint. This is something that I’ll love to make a living in, and hopefully inspire other artists and brain tumor survivors with my artwork, hopefully giving many other people hope and wonderment with my art. I dream of someday being discovered with my work and being able to thrive of my dream of hopefully becoming an art therapist and help other survivors that need the gift of art in their life.
