Artist Statement (include type of art, techniques & materials used, what it means to you)
Acrylic, watercolor, pencils, real pearl. Can be displayed vertically or horizonally. I chose a dark blue background as a symbol of the spiritual world. The surgeon's hands are releasing the tumor where it is transformed into a beautiful pearl. The circle around the pearl represents my recovery into what will become my "unwanted gift."

Artist Bio: Tell Us Your Story
My story begins and ends with gratitude. After my brain tumor was removed, a brain abcess developed and I had emergency surgery to remove the portion of my infected skull. I have had 5 brain surgeries within the past year. Brain tumors can create changes in how you process and understand your thoughts and feelings. Something incredible happens while you recover and heal - new gifts and perspectives will change you. Despite my pain and disorientation I learned to appreciate the tiniest details in everything. I am blessed to have the best medical care in the greatest country in the world. I will be "forever grateful."
