Artist StatementI've used art as a way of escaping and zoning out. Drawing my patterns and taking photographs put me in a zen mode that helps me relax, which helps me to cope with the everyday struggles of being a brain tumor survivor.
I usually draw patterns. I was struggling to find something that I wanted to draw, so I usually do inside of itself - patterns inside of patterns.
BioI'm Isaac Feil and I'm 18 years old. In August of 2012, I was diagnosed with a Craniopharyngioma. I was 10 years old when the tumor was discovered, and because of having a brief span of time to coordinate surgeons between discovery and resection, I was 11 years old when it was ultimately removed.
Art has impacted my life in a couple of ways. One way is that after my operations, I was unable to play sports. So, art took up a lot of the time that I would've spent playing baseball, basketball, or soccer. Art also gave me a way to escape from everything. The third and final way is that I met a lot of people because of it.
My favorite medium is markers. I do sometimes use colored pencils or pencil and rarely paint (usually in art class or camps).
