This piece is of a brain constructed from all of the hospital bracelets I received while completing my radiation treatment. Its title, A New Mind, plays with the idea that while after all of the treatments I have received, my brain in nowhere near “new” as in untouched, my mind is “new” in the sense that I feel like it has positively developed throughout this process and allowed me to learn so much about myself.
BioI am 17 years old and a junior in high school. I was diagnosed with anaplastic ependymoma in June of 2018. I feel that art has allowed me to be to express my creativity in a way that I otherwise would not be able to. Through art, I can not only explore visual concepts that interest me, but also find new means of conveying and giving voice to my thoughts, experiences, and emotions in a way that is non verbal. I do not have one single favorite medium, but rather prefer to use a variety of materials in my art. I found out about Art of Surviving through an Instagram post by PNOC Foundation, a foundation for pediatric brain cancer.
