Artist Statement
Tangled Thoughts - 20" by 20" by Acrylic on Canvas. A collaborative piece by Kai Parham and Fiona Macfarlane. also part of a larger series aptly titled, Messy Mind. The background and tracing of Kai's head were done by Fiona and the rest of the painting was done by Kai Parham. Sometimes we have so much going on in our minds that our thoughts seem to get muddled and mixed up and nothing seems clear. Other times our thoughts are twisted, intertwined, connected, and perfectly clear. Either way, they are tangled.

Bio
Kai Parham (aged 20) is fully blind in one eye and massively visually impaired in the other and battling with short term memory loss since being diagnosed in July 2017 with an irremovable brain tumor (Grade 2 Bilateral Thalamic Astrocytoma). His abstract art pieces are created utilizing acrylic paint, pouring medium, and gravity. This technique allows the paints to do its own thing with stunning organic color blending results. Each pour painting is as unique as the moment it was created in. A once highly energetic, overactive, nature enthusiast who used to spend the majority of his time at the skate park, in the bush, or in the ocean now needed a new outlet. Introduced to art by his mother Kai dove in full steam ahead.

Fiona Macfarlane (mother/carer aged 47) is a Caribbean artist who was born in Jamaica, raised in Belize, and currently lives in the Cayman Islands. Fiona loves the sunshine and is drawn to the outdoors, whether it be the beach, bush, or backyard. Inspiration for her paintings comes from the colorful sea life and nature that is her home environment. Her aim is to bring the feeling of the outside, inside with paintings that have a zest for life and bring feelings of joy and happiness.
