Artist StatementArt has changed my life in many ways, providing me with an opportunity to be creative when I feel anxious or hungry. It allows me to relax when I feel frustrated or concerned about things that are out of my control. I draw inspiration from the fact that all pieces of artwork are unique just like humans, each one holding its own beauty. It is one of my best sources of motivation because it pushes me to come out of my comfort zone to try new things, even if it is hard at first.
My favorite medium is Photography because it takes me to another world- the world of art and beauty that has gotten me through many tough times.
BioMy name is Levi Olson. I am 13 years old and a two-time brain tumor survivor.
I was diagnosed with a craniopharyngioma on May 7, 2012 at age five. It was successfully removed through my nose (endoscopic endonasal approach) on June 11, 2012 at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP).
In June 2019 a recurrence of the craniopharyngioma was discovered through my annual MRI. We again made the trip from my home in Austin, Texas to CHP and the tumor was removed on July 12, 2019 by the same surgical team.
We are forever grateful to those surgeons, and all the doctors, nurses, and medical staff who have taken care of me over the years.
