Artist Statement
This flower represents the joy I feel that Matteo has fought and won the battle against cancer. I lived with him and his Mom in Boston, when he was receiving radiation treatment at Mass Gen. Every weekday he would go to the Proton Center and receive his radiation. Never complaining once. When his Mom worked, he would lay on the couch feeling sick and nauseous from the radiation. As his Nana, I would try to keep him comfortable and get him to eat something even though he wasn’t hungry. It breaks one’s heart to see someone you love going through pain. But he did it, and he survived.
Thank you for recognizing their fight.
