Artist StatementArt has impacted my life through its ability to let me relax and escape. Ever since I was a kid, I have enjoyed drawing people and things that I see. I think that my artistic interest has been inherited down to Avery which brings me joy. My favorite medium now for art is now digital art within applications such as Photoshop or even Adobe After Effects. I have created multiple videos from my trips around Asia while in the military as they provide a means of visually telling the story while having fun. I heard about the Art of Surviving from my wife. She always knew that drawing and art is something that Avery and myself have always enjoyed so this only made sense for us to participate in. I hope you like what we have created.
BioHello to anyone starting to read this biography. My name is Isaac Reyes and I am from Texas but currently living in Washington State. We have been a military family for 18 years and a patient family for the better part of 4 years. My daughter Avery was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor at the age of 5 and been battling the life long side effects since then. Avery currently receives her care at the Army Medical Facility on Fort Lewis and attends routine medical appointments at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
I decided to enter the art contest because drawing, painting, and crafting has become a favorite pastime for Avery and our family. We created crafts during Avery’s PICU residence time and any time we are at home. Avery’s condition has prevented her to stay for an extensive amount of time in the sun so conducting crafts is a good escape for our family.
