"Ostrich Eggs" happily laid at 3RR, uniquely crafted
DescriptionOil on primed ostrich egg
Originally I thought of doing an African landscape with the ostriches, but then I thought since this egg came from some Kona birds it would be appropriate for them to be on island. These ostrich parents are enjoying a day at Old A with their keiki chicks. The leis were pretty much mandatory at that point. In this painting you can see Mauna Loa (I put some snow on top because my studio has been freaking hot lately), Hualalai, and Kohala, 3 of our 5 mountains. There's a honu sunbathing as well.
BioFrom the artist. "The power of landscape art resides in its ability to transport the viewer in time and space. To achieve this, my work strives to capture ephemeral moments at a location, as light interacts with shape, with place. All of my work is about place, and our interactions with place. I’ve been in love with Hawai’i since the first time I visited, and am profoundly grateful to be able to call Kailua-Kona home.
As a landscape artist I am continually amazed and inspired by this beautiful place. My work is in private and corporate collections, and am proud to have won multiple awards in juried shows throughout my career. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in studio art from St. Olaf College, graduating cum laude and with departmental distinction. My MFAIA, Masters of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts, was earned through Goddard College in 2012, and focused on the power of place in landscape art". See more of Dawns work at dsagart.com
