26 x 5 1/2“, 22 karat variegated gold leaf, molding paste, oil paint, lights and mixed media. A representaction of Pele and her little sister Hi’iaka.

Everything took on a circular feel in this piece, from the disc of gold behind Pele’s head to her sister in her hands, to the portrayal of Hi’iaka’s egg on an egg. A reminder of new birth, and the worlds carried within worlds. In this symbolic piece we see Pele’s hair flowing down in rivers of lava, as she carries her little sister to their new home in Hawai’i.


Bio
About the artist. "An pop figurative trans artist, Adare graduated from the San Francisco Academy of Art University and the Temescal Atelier for Classical Realism before moving to the Big Island of Hawaii. Their counterculture portrait series Restraint & Revolution toured from the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s Schaefer International Gallery (2013) to museums and galleries in San Francisco, Seattle, and Las Vegas. Likewise, their ongoing, island inspired portrait series Mahalo Nui Loa continues to capture Hawaii’s serenity one painting at a time.
Utilizing archival quality materials, including Gamlin oils and metallic pigment on Belgian Linen, Adare’s portraits invest over 100 hours, layering thin translucent paints until the figure appears to breathe on the canvas. Exhibited at the Legion of Honor (2005) as part of collaborative show, Adare went on to exhibit thrice at MACC’s Schaeffer Portrait Challenge (2012, 2015, 2018) while winning awards at the Wyland Gallery’s Best of the West (2013) and the Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art (2015). They have two books: Restraing & Revolution: The Art of Adare and The Pocket Guide for the Badass Artist along with a DVD documentary of Restraint & Revolution."
