About Us

The mission of the American Pit Bull Foundation is to promote responsible breed ownership through education, programing, and assistance.

The American Pit Bull Foundation was created to advocate for America’s favorite dog!  Pit bulls are the most misunderstood breed due to irresponsible ownership, sensationalist news media, and the perpetuation of myths about pit bulls.  The American Pit Bull Foundation has grown to include the Positive Pit Care School Program, Helping Hands, and Operation Sidekick.

The American Pit Bull Foundation combats cruelty and the misconception of pit bulls by educating K-12 students about compassionate canine care including topics such as:

  • Responsible Breed Ownership
  • Canine Diseases & Preventions
  • Dog Bite Safety
  • Breeding & Overpopulation
  • Positive Alternatives to Dog Fighting
  • Breed Identification

The Helping Hands Fund was created to assist responsible Bully breed owners facing financial difficulties who are in need of medical assistance for their dogs.  APBF believes in keeping families together and preventing pit bulls from being surrendered to shelters.

Operation Sidekick is the program created to save pit bulls and veterans of the U.S. Military. Over 22 veterans a day are lost to suicide, which is now the leading cause of death in the military.  Additionally, over 3,000 Pit Bulls are killed every day.  APBF is the first organization to bridge the gap and exclusively train rescued pit bulls as service dogs to help our veterans overcome the daily struggle of PTSD and depression.
