Maxwell was rescued from a West Virginia kill shelter as a puppy with his brothers and sisters. Half hound and half mystery (guesses have included rottweiler, Swiss/Bernese Mountain Dog, black lab, German shepherd, doberman, Tibetan mastiff, and even, once, sennenhund, which I had to Google...), he was 20 pounds when I adopted him at three months old and grew 10 pounds per month until he topped out at 100 pounds of mellow, tolerant, huggable buddy. Max has been my best friend, hiking partner, and shoulder to cry on for 9 years--outlasting two marriages! I'm hoping for at least 9 more years and encourage others to find their new best friends through rescue organizations and shelters.
