A little about me...
Rufus came to us as a foster from Above & Beyond English Setter Rescue.
Heartbroken after the lost my Springer Spaniel, Rusty at the age of 15, I knew I needed another dog in my life.
Interview after interview, I convinced my husband that we should foster and see how it goes.
Rufus was a little older than we had originally agreed on. He's now about 4 or so.. I actually had told my buddy at the rescue no at first to this dog from Turkey. I changed my mind, contacted her and took Rufus in.
I followed the flight from Istanbul to Miami. Every transport move from Miami up to NJ I was frantically waiting. Family did one of the legs in Florida. I spoke to him ov video chat and cried like a baby. I just wanted him here and safe with me and my husband.
We picked him up in Cherry Hill, NJ. Brought him home. He ran through our home like a tornado! We both didn't know what we got ourselves into. I tried speaking Turkish, English, Hungarian. Some worked. Some didnt.
Slowly, he started to settle in. He started to learn commands. Always, always affectionate. More than any other dog I've had or known.. We decided we couldn't let this boy go.. he had to stay with us.. 14 months later, he's such a good boy. He has learned so much and so have we, about him and about the breed.
He is my shadow. My sometimes crazy, sometimes lazy, sometimes loving, bird obsessed bundle of furry love.. My 0-60 , 60-0 mph dog I call him. We helped him, but I think he helped us more.
