FAQ

How much is the entry fee?

The entry fee is $25 per photo. This fee includes one copy of the full-color calendar that will be mailed to you in October. You can make an additional donation during the entry process that will count as votes. We estimate the value received per entry fee is $15. Therefore, of your $25 entry fee, $10 may be considered a tax-deductible donation. All proceeds from contest entries will help us provide shelter and care for the homeless animals at the Dumb Friends League.

My pet is microchipped, so why does my photo need to show my pet wearing a collar and tags?

As your local animal shelter, we feel it is important to promote responsible pet ownership via collars and tags. It is really hard to photograph a microchip! For the Pet of the Month photos, our staff judges will make a case-by-case determination about photos, as we do understand that there are certain angles and fur that don’t allow collars to be easily seen.  If we love your photo but your pet does not have a collar and tag, we will Photoshop them in.

How many photos can I enter?

You can enter as many as you want!

How many votes do I need to have my pet featured on a certain month?

Sorry, votes don’t count toward the Pet of the Month photos. Our panel of judges will select those for the 2016 calendar.  The top five photos with the most public votes will be awarded other great prizes. All proceeds from votes will help us provide shelter and care for the homeless animals at the Dumb Friends League.

How do I enter the contest via mail?

If you’re mailing in your photo, we can accept 4” x 6” prints or larger, preferably in a horizontal format for design purposes. Mailed photos should be sent to the address below, along with the offline entry form:

  • Mailed entries will appear online within 48 business hours of receipt.
How do I vote for a pet’s picture?

Votes are $1 each, with a minimum donation of $5 for five votes. All votes are tax-deductible. Yes, you can vote for your own pet’s photo (and as many times as you and your friends and family want!).

How to vote by mail:
